My surgery was scheduled for 9am Thursday morning. (I shaved my legs) : ) Going in really felt like I was getting close to seeing the light on the other side of the darkness of the past 9 days.
Surgery went well, and we got the silver lining I (and a lot of other people) were praying and dancing for, which is an "all clear" in my sentinal lymph nodes (the nodes closest) to the tumor on my left side. And an "all clear" on the sentinal nodes on the right side too. It may not be widely known, but we decided to do a bi-lateral or double masectomy for *mostly* prevention purposes. The MRI showed "suspect" areas on the right side. These suspect areas could not be found with a sonagram or a biopsy, but rather than spend the rest of my life having nervous breakdowns everytime I go in for a mamagram, reducing my chances for recurrance to 1%, or EVER having to walk through these woods again, I said goodbye to both breasts (and they were damn nice ones too, if you ask me!).
Next steps - a full pathology report of both sites next Weds and a referral to oncology for treatment.
That is the update, but I would be remiss without giving my angels FULL recognition: First and formost, my husband Dan who deserves the "husband medal of honor". I am the luckiest woman on earth to have a Dan angel. Others of the same caliber include my mom, Aunt Lynda, Bill, Denise, and Leslie. All of whom without I would not have my wits about me. Hospital staff and surgeons - people who God gave the gift of life to their hands and minds. There are SO many others that I'm not going to take up space to list - the truth is I don't think there is enough cyberspace to list them all!
I'll update again after the follow-up next week. Mostly, I want to THANK all of you who have gone over and above and beyond and around and across and through this with me one way or another. Human beings are amazing.
